Children's Waiting Room Substitute Attendant
· Start time for CWR Employee is 0830 (room opens at 0900, 30 mins should be used to set up and prepare the room).
1. Program and Services Management
a. Provide a variety of activities for toddlers to 12 years old
The Children’s Waiting Room (CWR) Substitute Staff provides supervision to children (ages 18 months to 12 years old) whose parent/sibling(s) have medical appointments at General Leonard Wood Community Hospital (GLWCH). This position serves as an on-call substitute, filling in as needed in the event of staff absences, call-offs, or increased staffing needs.
Operating hours for the Children’s Waiting Room are Monday through Thursday from 0900 to 1200 at GLWCH.

· Schedule will vary based on program needs and staff availability.
1. Program and Services Management
a. Provide a variety of activities for children ages 18 months to 12 years old
b. Model exemplary behavior for parents, children, and volunteers
c. Interact with children and provide a nurturing, safe, and engaging environment
d. Communicate to the Programs Manager and Point of Contact (POC) at the hospital any issues or concerns in the CWR
e. Follow all Child Abuse Reporting procedures when necessary
f. Assist with supervision of volunteers when present
g. Ensure that all CWR policies and procedures are followed
2. Facility Management
a. Assist with opening and closing the center when scheduled
b. Maintain a safe and clean childwatch area
c. Ensure new parents complete proper registration forms and provide required documentation
d. Ensure each parent signs their child in and out
e. Maintain registration files and parent information as directed
f. Ensure all records are kept secure when not in use
g. Report unsafe conditions to the Executive Director or Programs Manager immediately
h. Provide written accident reports involving any child when necessary
i. Clean all toys and surfaces using approved cleaning supplies upon closing of the center
3. Equipment Management
a. Keep toys and equipment clean, sanitary, and in good working condition
b. Inform Programs Manager of needed supplies or equipment concerns
Qualifications
- Experience working with children is preferred
- Ability to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children
- Understanding of military family challenges is preferred
- Experience preparing and implementing age-appropriate activities
- Flexibility and reliability to respond to short-notice staffing needs
Reliable transportation is required for this position.

- CPR, First Aid, and KIT Training (online training to be determined by Executive Director)
- Drug Screening and Background Check

g. Reports unsafe conditions to the Executive Director
h. Provides parent and Programs Manager with written accident report involving any child
i. Cleans all toys with Lysol Wipes or spray upon closing of center
4. Equipment Management
a. Keep toys and equipment clean and sanitary and in good working condition
b. Inform Programs Manager about needed supplies
Qualifications: Work experience with children. An understanding of military family challenges. Experience preparing and developing age-appropriate activities.
