Hampton Roads Development Director: Virginia Beach, Virginia FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt
The Development Director is responsible for the planning and execution of branch fundraising initiatives in the Hampton Roads area and continued stewardship of established community relationships. They are responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads’ fundraising including, the annual fund, major gifts, special events, and corporate giving. The Development Director works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Management in all development and fundraising endeavors. The salary range for this position is $70-75,000 based on individual experience and prior fundraising performance.
Development Director Job Responsibilities:
Create and execute annual fundraising plan to meet fundraising goals that aligns with the organization's strategic plan.
Actively manage portfolio of 200+ donors. The principal charge is to create numerous, efficient, and compelling opportunities for donors to support our organization and to make the experience of giving satisfying and rewarding
Work closely with Executive Director and Board members to cultivate, ask, and steward charitable gifts in line with the mission of the organization
Provide leadership to Development team, including a Grants Manager, Marketing and Communications Specialist, and Events Assistant.
Prepare and present regular reports on progress towards fundraising goals.
Plan and execute fundraising special events to include but not limited to: sponsorship sales, coordination with community sponsors, securing of event facility locations, resources and developing an operating budget
Make public appearances/initiate speaking engagements to share information about the ASYMCAHR with prospective donors and supporters consistently.
Oversee the grant writing program, including active participation in the cultivation of funder relationships.
Oversee the fundraising database and tracking system. Maintain a donor database and implement a strategic engagement plan with current and potential community partners. Ensure a donor stewardship plan is in place, including timely responses to donation, donation tracking, and reporting impact to donors.
Oversee the creation and distribution of donor communications, newsletters, and annual reports.
Oversee creation of print, digital and social media content.
Network and maintain regular correspondence with donors.
Perform other duties as assigned
Development Director Qualifications/Skills:
Applied understanding of basic fundraising principles and development best practices
Strong prospect identification and qualification skills
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading ability
Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and presentation skills
Database and spreadsheet proficiency
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)
Experience with online fundraising, email marketing, and internet research
Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree
Experience with capital campaigns preferred
Minimum five years of fundraising or non-profit experience
Previous management experience a plus
Proven track record of meeting fundraising goals and securing major gifts
Possess the skills to work and motivate staff, board members, and other volunteers
