Staff Accountant - Federal
Federal Staff Accountant (partially remote) is responsible for assisting the Lead Senior
Accountant, the Vice President of Finance, and the Childcare Directors in executing all
accounting functions, including financial analysis, reconciliation, general accounting, and
journal entry preparation for the new ASYMCA Childcare Development Centers (CDCs).
Salary commensurate with experience $65,000-$72,400 with annual bonus potential and
comprehensive benefits package.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the completion of accounting tasks by monthly deadlines for data entry, transaction analysis, and reconciliation.
- Support the Lead Senior Accountant in overseeing all financial activities of the Childcare Development Centers as needed, including the month-end close process, accounting operations, financial reporting, financial reconciliation, and cash management for headquarters and the three CDC locations.
- Coordinate with center contacts for receiving A/P invoices that need to be processed and copies of cash receipts that have been deposited into the bank.
- Review and process Credit Card expenses and receipts following ASYMCA accounting and corporate card use policies and procedures.
- Review Fixed Assets for assigned locations; ensure any new assets added are set up properly for depreciating; run monthly depreciation.
- Accrue for any applicable revenue earned or expenses incurred by location.
- Performs general accounts analysis and bank reconciliations on a monthly basis.
- Assist with the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Assist with schedules and support needed for annual audit and Form 990 tax filing.
- Set priorities and goals for daily work and projects.
- Serve as a key technical accounting resource for the childcare development centers.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Follow systems and controls to verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data.
- Ensure that the operational and design effectiveness of internal controls are maintained.
- Provide reports as requested to the Lead Senior Accountant and/or the Childcare Development Center Management Team.
- Perform all other tasks or projects as assigned or as directed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and minimum of 5 years of related experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Non-profit accounting experience preferred
- Prior accounting experience in childcare preferred
- Recent demonstrated progressive experience
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills
- Experience with Intacct accounting system and Procare a plus

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Able to perform sedentary work including working at a workstation and performing repetitive keyboarding activities.
- Able to operate general office equipment. Visual and hearing acuity necessary to operate equipment, use telecommunication, read fine print, and utilize a computer monitor throughout the course of a normal workday.
- Able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds. Some physical effort may be required.
