Summary
The Custodian/Facilities Maintenance Worker is responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance, and upkeep of all indoor and outdoor areas of the building, classrooms, and playground. This includes regular cleaning, disinfection, minor repairs, and ensuring the center is fully stocked with necessary supplies. The ideal candidate will be proactive, thorough, and take pride in providing a clean and safe environment for staff, children, and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, disinfecting bathrooms, emptying trash, cleaning windows weekly inside and outside the building.
  • Washing classroom laundry at the end of each day.
  • Clean carpets monthly or as required, and bleach and sanitize bottles daily to maintain hygiene standards.
  • Manage and maintain stock levels by ensuring all rooms are supplied with necessary cleaning materials, paper products, and other essentials, while conducting a monthly inventory of supplies and reporting to the Childcare Director to ensure adequate stock.
  • Perform outdoor maintenance by blowing the playground area three times a week or as needed, trimming or mowing the grass weekly, washing playground structures and outdoor areas as necessary, and handling minor repairs around the center to ensure the facility remains functional and well-maintained.
  • Perform monthly checks and replace batteries in gates, handle minor repairs and general maintenance tasks around the center, and paint the interior or playground structures as needed to maintain the appearance and safety of the facilities.

  • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Represents the Armed Services YMCA with a professional and positive demeanor.

Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • May work a fluctuating work schedule to complete work assignments outside of the typical work hours.
  • Must have current Driver’s License, insurance, and an operational vehicle.
  • Position is subject to background check and drug testing as a condition of employment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
 
  • The position requires regular physical activity, including bending, standing, and walking throughout the building.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries and balances objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and outdoor weather conditions may occur.
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position.
  • Must be able to work in various environments, both indoors and outdoors, and be prepared to handle both routine and emergency maintenance tasks.

This job operates both inside and outside the childcare center. The noise level at many events can be loud.
