Reports to: Program Manager, Family & Youth Enrichment

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Program Manager of the Family and Youth Enrichment department, the Program Lead is primarily responsible for the facilitation of programs focused on family and youth enrichment with an emphasis on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Programs include Afterschool Achievement Academy, Operation Hero, Camp Hero, Leaders in Training, Operation Little Learner, Operation Kid Comfort, & potential support for special events and Horse of the Sun Ranch events. Duties include working closely with the Program Manager to ensure that program needs are being addressed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fulfill program and special event responsibilities identified by the Program Manager.

  • Facilitate programs with intention and purpose. Conducts all activities to ensure that the goals and objectives of each program are met.
  • Provide high quality programs using current teaching techniques and FYE Standard Operating Procedures. Fulfill Administrative requirements outlined in manual including completion of program attendance, incident documentation and program reports, completion of time cards, mileage and petty cash requests, monthly statistics, and special projects as feasible.
  • Be a good steward of agency and grant funds, promote cause driven leadership and the attitude of gratitude.
  • Be available for families seeking services with a general working knowledge of all ASYMCA programs and services.
  • Complete statistical reporting and periodic program evaluations and use data to inform program enhancements.
  • Able to evaluate programs using available data. Support Program Manager in grant application and fund generation by providing ASY stories, participant photos and other activities as appropriate.
  • Actively participate in scheduled meetings, team implementation of FYE events, office space improvements and program development.
  • Monitor and organize program supplies and equipment.
  • Implementation and facilitation of programs which support the needs and well being of the military family in regards to Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
  • Work collaboratively interdepartmentally, and with military and civilian organizations, to provide high quality programs/events which benefit military members and their families.
  • Maintains professionalism by administering both verbal and written correspondence in a timely manner. Supports other departments as schedule permits. Maintains professional boundaries with program participants and FYE staff
  • Dresses appropriately for different job responsibilities; maintains professional demeanor when representing the ASYMCA.
  • Complete statistical reporting in a timely manner and in accordance with FYE department Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Fulfill program and special event responsibilities identified by supervisor(s).
  • All other duties as assigned

INTERACTION
This position may provide information to donors, potential donors, program participants, volunteers, partners, ASYMCA SD Board and staff, and others from the community.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures and meets with management staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Assesses and monitors workload; identifies opportunities for improvement and implements changes.
  • Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; facilitates one-on-one supervision with youth services staff; works with employees to correct deficiencies; makes recommendations regarding discipline and termination.


EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE
Minimum: At least two years college level coursework with an emphasis in, Child Care, Family Resources or Education or comparable course of study, and two years experience in either facilitating children’s programs and/or working in a similar or related capacity for a nonprofit organization. Experience working with adults and children in different life stages. Familiarity with the military population or equivalent socio economic group.

Highly Desirable: B.A. degree from an accredited university or college in Child Development or Education or comparable course of study preferred and four or more years experience in a position requiring similar skill sets. Experience facilitating children’s programming.

Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration of this position.

  • Strong proficiency in Windows 2000, Excel, Microsoft Word, Publisher, Social Media, and contact management programs such as Salesforce.
  • Must be accurate and detail oriented, possess strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a complex and fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational, and public speaking skills.
  • Proven track record of success.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Standard office equipment and machines such as telephone, personal computer, multi-function copy machine, and 10-key calculator.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the organization’s insurance carrier standards. Must either posses or be able to obtain a Class B Drivers License. Must either posses or be able to obtain Pediatric and Adult CPR and First Aid Certification.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
  • Work in an office setting with occasional travel to other locations in San Diego County.
  • Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel and uses hands, arms and legs for dexterity, balance and climbing stairs frequently. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries and balances objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Pulls and pushes such objects as file drawers and supplies.
  • Prioritizes and multi-tasks work and projects requiring good memory, concentration and analytical thinking.
  • Occasionally is required to perform the safe operation office equipment and machines, and recognize and abate safety hazards within the workplace.
  • Occasionally will be task with operating a vehicle that requires a Class “B” license.
  • Must be able to hear, see including peripheral vision and distinction of colors, read and communicate verbally and in writing frequently with a wide range of people from divergent socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and origins.
