JOB SUMMARY
The Director will have operational responsibility for Horse of the Sun Ranch (HOSR) staff, programs, safety and execution of the Armed Services YMCA stated mission at our largest service site. The Director will develop a deep knowledge of core programs, operations and business plans and is responsible for communicating the mission and how programs of ASYMCA are executed on the HOSR. In cooperation with the development and marketing teams for the organization, the Director will assist in developing communications promoting all we do at HOSR via various mediums such as social media, publications, newsletters and marketing materials.  The Director will perform office administration functions including accounting & finance, HR functions for the HOSR team with the support of the ASY office, etc.  Oversees strategic partnerships with the business community and military commands and service organizations to help sponsor and support programs & community events at the ranch. General administrative duties also include working as part of the management team, staff and volunteer supervision, fiscal management and development of the annual budget. The Director also oversees operations management relating to ranch preventative and regular maintenance, seasonal repairs and prep for inclement weather, fire abatement, evacuation planning, livestock health maintenance, and other features of an intensive agricultural zoned property.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure safe operation of the ranch and provide oversight for required maintenance, upkeep, and safety standards.
  • Purchase items for ranch maintenance and programming.
  • Acquire bids and work with licensed contractors on installation and repairs to ranch infrastructure and facilities.
  • Manage ranch and adjacent public wildlands, waterways as well as domestic livestock and wildlife.
  • Tracks monthly budget-to-actual reports on financial results.
  • In conjunction with the marketing and development team contributes to Marketing, Public Relations, and community awareness for Horse of the Sun.
  • Utilizes information technology to carry out job responsibilities and leverages it as a tool to improve office efficiencies including donor information, collaboration with the senior management team of ASY, and regular reporting.
  • In conjunction with ASY event staff, coordinate command days, retreats and special events focused on engaging active duty military members on the ranch.
  • Contribute to the updates social media sites on a regular basis.
  • Contribute to the HOSR website page management and content.
  • Contribute to the ASY newsletter and marketing material with HOSR specific materials and stories about the work that occurs there.
  • Provide prospective donors, command representatives, and dignitaries with tours and information about the programs of the ASY that occur at the ranch.
  • In cooperation with the ASY development team, build relationships with community members, vendors and volunteers to ensure event sponsorship, and underwriting of activities that happen at the ranch year round.
  • Develop accurate and effective office administration management systems covering all facets of the business.
  • Meet budget goals for special events and annual program fee revenues.
  • Recruit, where necessary, and train volunteers for all tasks assigned.
  • Participate in development and corporate functions including retreats, events, and community meetings, and command events where we can highlight activities of the ranch benefiting active duty military members. 
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Model the core values of the Armed Services YMCA
  • Attend Board of Management meetings and present program reports as requested.  Develop strong relationships with the Board of Managers and act as a liaison to motivating, recognizing and engaging them in the branch financial development efforts.
  • Supervise staff and volunteers as required.

EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor Business Administration degree in Marketing, Communication, Business or related field preferred. Five years of leadership experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Leadership to ensure the care and safety for staff and horses located at the Horse of the Sun Ranch.
  • Excellent initiative, enthusiasm, ability to work independently.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond in critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in the event of an emergency.
  • Proven office administration skills and fiscal management knowledge and skills, including a working knowledge of accounting, budgeting and finance.
  • Proven ability to create and develop positive, constructive relationships, partnerships, and community relations and a positive public image for Horse of the Sun.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office and the ability to develop and design direct-mail, advertisements, promotional and media print material.
  • Professional demeanor, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well with the public, staff and volunteers.
  • Knowledge of Cal Fire rules and regulations regarding property protection and evacuation procedures.

Equipment used: Saddles, Tack, Electric & Gas Carts, Hand Tools, Tractors, Welders, Generators, Water wells and storage tanks.
