Job Title: Education Coordinator
FLSA Status: Full Time-Hourly
Reports to: Education Director
Hourly Pay: $21.12-$31.68 DOE
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Education Coordinator is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching and mentoring team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of learning programs: early learning and school age. The Education Coordinator must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Education Coordinator must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants and mentors, and resolve parental concerns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with early learning standards and provided curriculum.
Incorporate play-based and developmentally appropriate practices into daily activities.
Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment. Continually monitor classroom and learning spaces for best practice arrangements of age-appropriate learning centers.
Ensure a consistent daily schedule and smooth transitions between activities
Manage behaviors positively while fostering social-emotional growth.
Observe and assess each child’s development to support their unique learning needs. Differentiate learning when needed to ensure child’s success.
Maintain good communications; build strong, positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
Provide regular updates to parents about their child’s progress and classroom activity through direct conversations, newsletters, messages, parent teacher conferences and progress reports.
Collaborate with staff and administration on curriculum and classroom goals.
Participate in community outreach to foster positive relationships and engagement. Develop and manage communications such as calendars, bulletin boards, news articles, emails, and newsletter content. Represent the organization at events to promote programs and services
Develop relationships with key influencers to promote the ASYMCA’s learning programs through base school liaison officer’s, school administration, teachers, guidance counselors, and parent/teacher organizations.
Ensure a healthy classroom environment- maintain a clean, safe and organized classroom, and work areas.
Follow health, safety, ASYMCA, DOD policies and regulations.
Ensure educational programs are adhering and supporting YMCA competencies: mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness, and personal growth.
Supervise children to ensure their safety at all times.
Monitor and provide suggestions to assure classrooms and materials are maintained to the highest standards.
Attend staff meetings, training sessions and professional development opportunities.
Lead by example; maintain a positive attitude and adaptability in the classroom. Encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching teacher assistant’s and substitute teachers.
Train staff on best practices for teaching and learning; suggest trainings when applicable.
Resolve conflicts when necessary to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
Track and document attendance, developmental milestones, and other required data.
REQUIREMENTS:
Early childhood or elementary education certificate or degree
Familiar with Alaska Early Childhood Standards
First Aid/CPR Certified
Experience planning and implementing curriculum
Must have a clean criminal background check clearance from the Armed Services YMCA, and be approved for military installation base access
In person position. Full-time year-round schedule, or full-time school year schedules available
